Abudu and Andani delegation to meet Asantehene

Tamale, Aug. 28, GNA – Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, Northern Regional Minister is leading a 12-member delegation of the Abudu and Andani Royal Gates in the Dagbon Chieftaincy dispute to meet Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei-Tutu II in Kumasi to discuss the current disturbances at Yendi. Six representatives and two interpreters each from the two Royal Gates would meet the Asantehene, Chairman of the Committee of Eminent Kings tasked to help resolve the Dagbon Chieftaincy dispute.

Alhaji Idris speaking to newsmen in Tamale on Monday before his departure, called on the people of Dagbon, especially those in Yendi, to remain calm and maintain the peace while efforts were made to address the problem that brought about the clashes.

He also called on the Northern Regional Security Council (NRESEC) and the security services to be on “a high alert” and swiftly deal with any group of people who would try to disturb the peace.

Meanwhile, Mr. Patrick K. Acheampong, Inspector General of Police (IGP), has been in Yendi to access the situation on the ground and held a closed door meeting with the security personnel.

Reports reaching the GNA in Tamale from Yendi said security had been beefed up in the township and life was going on normally. Last Friday, a group of young men from the Abudu Royal Gate clashed with the security personnel when they attempted to occupy the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, leading to the death of three people.
