The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) is preparing to demolish structures and remove traders, hawkers and commercial drivers from the Abrepo Junction stretch as part of a planned redevelopment of the area.
Those affected have reportedly been told to leave by Thursday, October 8, 2026, ahead of the proposed exercise. However, no clear relocation site has been identified for the people who currently operate there.
Bosie Amponsah, the Assemblyman for Abrepo Junction, said the lack of information had left him deeply concerned, particularly with the deadline approaching.
Speaking on Akoma 87.9 FM, he said he was worried not only for the affected workers but also because the authorities had yet to explain where they would be moved.
> “I am very frustrated and even more worried than the affected hawkers and drivers because we still do not know exactly where they will be relocated,” he said.
Mr Amponsah added that he had not been given details about the destination for those who would lose access to the area as a result of the planned demolition.
> “I’ll be honest, as we speak today, I don’t know where they’re going,” he said.
The proposed clearance is expected to affect several groups whose livelihoods depend on activity at Abrepo Junction, including hawkers, commercial drivers and other workers.
With the stated deadline drawing closer, uncertainty over the relocation arrangements has become a significant concern for local stakeholders and the people facing displacement. They are seeking clarification on where they will be able to continue their activities after leaving the current location.
