Abrenya Catholic Primary needs assistance

Abrenya(E/R), Jan. 8, GNA – The Catholic Primary School at Abrenya near Asamama in the Atiwa District, has appealed for assistance to improve the conditions in the school to effectively promote teaching and learning .

Making the appeal at Abrenya through the Ghana News Agency on Saturday, the Assistant Head teacher of the school, Madam Ellen Awoh, said the school had only three classrooms, an office and a store instead of six-unit classrooms.

She said some of the pupils attend classes in the Catholic Church creating problem for the administration, which tended to militate against the smooth running of the school. Madam Awoh said the school had not seen any renovation and provision of infrastructure since its inception some three decades ago and badly needs immediate attention.

She said since it is a farming community, the residents send their products to the marketing centre at Akim Asamamah, a distance of eight kilometres, and parents engage their wards in carting their produce, thus creating problems for the school. According to her, during farming seasons, the pupils help their parents in the farming activities at the expense of their education. The Assembly Member for the area, Mr Otchere Frimpong, when contacted, said he had discussed the conditions in the school with the Atiwa District Assembly and the Catholic Church and “very soon” work would start.

He, however, called on the School Management Committee and the Parent Teacher Association and the educational authorities to come to assist the District Assembly to rectify the situation.
