About 600 displaced by rainstorm at Asarekrom and Nyareyeya

Asarekrom (Ash), March 5, GNA – A Severe rainstorm at the weekend hit tw= o communities in the Amansie West District of Ashanti destroying 32 houses including a Kindergarten block and left about 600 people displaced. The affected communities are Asarekrom and Nyareyeya. Mr Asare Kojo, Assembly Member for the area, told the Ghana News Agency that personal belongings lost run into tens of thousands of GH Cedis. Additionally, large swathes of food crop farms got submerged follow= ing the heavy rainfall.

Mr Asare appealed to the District Assembly and Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to come to the aid of the two communities. Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive for Amansie West, Mr Charles Oti=

Prempeh and officials of the NADMO had visited the affected communities t= o assess the extent of the damage and to console the people. He assured them that the assembly’s would collaborate with NADMO to get relief items for them. Mr Prempeh advised the people to plant trees in the communities to serve= as wind break and prevent any such future occurrence. 5 April 10
