Mankranso (Ash), Jan. 22, GNA – A four-day seminar on HIV/AIDS has been held for about 400 adolescent girls drawn from a number of junior secondary schools at Mankranso in the Ahafo-Ano South District of Ashanti.
The seminar, organised by the District Directorate of Education, was aimed at creating awareness among the pupils on the causes, symptoms, mode of transmission and the dangers associated with the disease and how to prevent it.
The girls were taken through reproductive health, defensive skills against sexual harassment, knowing one’s HIV status, film shows and field trips.
Addressing the closing ceremony at the weekend, Mr Sampson Amofah-Krah, the District Director of Education, asked them to take what they had learnt seriously and impart the knowledge they had gained to their colleagues in their various communities.
This way, he said, they would be helping to stem the rapid spread of the pandemic, for which no cure had been discovered to date. Mrs Emelia Kwameh, the District Co-ordinator of Girl-Child Education, asked the participants to at least target one role model in the society and make it their priority to attain that status in life.
