Residents of Aboso in the Prestea- Huni Valley District in the Western Region are urging the government to rebuild the Aboso Glass Factory, which was demolished despite their protests by former GIHOC CEO, Hon. Maxwell Kofi Dwumah. The factory’s closure has devastated the local economy, causing job losses and increased involvement of youth in illegal mining activities.
In an interview with Evans Kweku Oboafi Junior HARDROCK a reporter, the chief of Aboso
Nana Kwesi Appiah II, accused former GIHOC CEO of selling the demolished factory to Chinese scrap dealers with a promise to rebuild it in few months.
The residents are demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.
Residents, youth groups, and civil society organizations are calling on the government to revamp the factory and utilize it for developing renewable energy equipment. This would provide employment opportunities for the youth and support the government’s economic initiatives.
The traditional leaders have pleaded with the District Chief Executive, Member of Parliament, and the President to resuscitate the factory. They cite its potential to absorb indigenes and reduce unemployment.
