Mr. Agyei Kwadwo, a native of Abono in the Bosomtwe District, on Monday won a Republic Day swimming competition organized for some selected communities along the Lake Bosomtwe basin.

The second position went to Isaac Owusu from Anyinatiase while Thomas Nyame also from Abono took the third position.

For their prizes, they took home one rice cooker, one DVD player and one standing fan each. The prizes were donated by Glo Mobile Ghana Ltd.

The competition was organized by the Bosomtwe District Assembly with support from the Ghana Tourism Authority and the Multi-Media Group.

Presenting the awards to the winners, Mr. Ekow Sampson, Ashanti Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority, said the competition which had become an annual event was aimed at promoting domestic tourism in the region.

The Regional Director commended the swimmers for their show of sportsmanship and the enthusiasm with which they went into the competition.

He announced that the Town and Country Planning was piloting a development scheme along the area to help streamline the usage of land on the lake basin to avoid haphazard development.

Miss Felicia Dapaah, Coordinating Director of the Bosomtwe District Assembly, said the Assembly would continue to put in place the right mechanisms and strategies to make the lake resort the obvious choice for relaxing by both local and foreign revelers.

He commended the security personnel and other stakeholders who contributed in diverse ways to make the programme a success and promised to do more for holiday makers.

A renowned highlife musician, Daasebre Dwamena, as well as other musicians thrilled the holiday makers with hip life music.**
