Bolgatanga, Dec 7, GNA – The Chief of Kazigo in the Upper East Region, Pe Parekuri T. A. Aluah, has called for the abolishing of the computerized placement system in the three northern regions.
He argued that the system was fraught with ineffectiveness and corruption and said if not checked it could push many children of school going age onto the streets.
The chief said this at a durbar of chiefs and people of the area to launch the “operation keep your environment clean and green” at Kazigo in the Kassena-Nankana East District.
Peparekuri Aluah said children in the area who had completed basic schools went through challenges and frustrations to know where they had been placed, adding that the placement system had made it difficult for rural school pupils who did not have good foundations at the basic level to be enrolled in schools.
“The system is more corrupt than lobbying for admissions from school heads in the past” he said and gave an example that a girl from the area who got aggregate 15 was denied her first choice but realized that other students with aggregates 21 and 24 were placed in category A schools.
He appealed to the government to abolish the computerized placement system and called on other stakeholders to support girl child education.
