Abofu Assembly Member wins 2015 AMA awards

Mr James Akogo, Assembly Member for Abofu, has been adjudged winner for the 2015 Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Member Awards.

The awards which is an annual event organised by Global Communities, Institute of Local Government Studies and National Association of Local Authorities in Ghana aims at including the urban poor in the governance process of the city.

“It also aims at honouring an assembly member who has distinguished himself in his duties over the years,” Mr Fred Oduro, Project Coordinator, Inclusiting Project, said in Accra.

He said the awards, which formed part of a broader project called Inclusiting Project stands for Includeness in the city and meant to include the poor in the governance process.

According to Mr Oduro, the criterion for selection was done through nominations by people and a community based organisation to nominate an assembly member who had excelled in his duties over the years.

For his award, Mr Akogo was given a certificate.

The awards programme was sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
