Ablakwa says Eastern University on course

The public university billed to be built in the Eastern Region is likely to be named ‘University of Environment and Sustainable Development’, according to Deputy Minister in charge of tertiary education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

He says: “The promise to establish a public university in the Eastern Region being the only region left without a public university is very much on course.”

Ablakwa wrote on Facebook that the Ministry and other stakeholders on Wednesday concluded a “very successful forum on the interim report of the university.”

The construction of the University is a campaign promise made by President Mahama in the lead up to the 2012 general elections.

Once completed, the Eastern Region can join the nine other Regions of the West African country to boast of its own public university.
