Akim Abenase (E/R), April 28, GNA – The Youth of Akim Abenase in the Birim North District have appealed to the district assembly to send an investigation team to the area to go into allegations they have levelled against their chief, Nana Barfi Ankrah Ababio IV. At a press conference held at Akim Abenase on Wednesday, a spokesperson of the youth, Nana Yaw Asare, accused the chief of allocating a sacred grove in the area to a timber company without the knowledge of the community.

He also accused the chief of failing to impress on Sankoma Timber Company Limited to fulfil its social responsibilities to the community. Nana Asare also demanded to know what was done with the town’s and whether the community was entitled to any share in it. When contacted, Nana Ababio denied all the charges and said the timber firm had fulfilled its social responsibilities by providing 400 plastic chairs and canopies.

He said monies due to the town from the granting of the timber concession were used in repairing streets lights and the construction of a block of two classrooms for the Presbyterian Primary School.
