Abankroh appointed Director-General of WAGPA

Accra, July 31, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor has appointed Mr Ernest Abankroh as Director-General for the West Africa Gas Pipeline Project Authority (WAGPA).

His appointment takes effect from Friday, August 1, 2008. A statement signed on Thursday by Mr M.A. Sarpong, Public Relations Officer on behalf of the Minister of Energy, on Thursday said the new Director-General was known in the mining circles for 20 years in different capacities.

It said Mr Abankroh was the former Country Manager of Anglogold Ashanti in Ghana and currently the Executive Chairman of Metrofile Ghana Limited.

The statement said Mr Abankroh would bring to WAGPA enormous experience ranging from his role as an accountant, lecturer and company secretary.

He is a graduate of the University of Cape Coast and Kensington School of Business UK and holds a Bachelor of Commerce honours degree, Diploma in Education and also a fellow of the UK Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. Mr Abankroh is a keen sportsman and a philanthropist who has contributed enormously to the Ghana Heart Foundation and Korle Bu Neuroscience Hospital Foundation. He is married to Veronica with whom he has four children. 31 July 08
