A Stalwart of Ghana Football: GFA Mourns Joseph Ade Coker

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is in mourning following the death of its former Vice Chairman, Joseph Ade Coker, who passed away after a short illness.

Mr. Coker, died at the Bank Hospital in Accra, prompting an outpouring of grief from both the football community and political circles, where he was equally well known for his leadership and dedication.

In a heartfelt statement, the GFA described him as “a dedicated servant of the game whose leadership and passion greatly shaped Ghana football.” The association also extended its condolences to his family, friends, and all who were impacted by his decades-long service to the sport.

Beyond his role at the GFA, Ade Coker was also a former Chairman of Accra Great Olympics Football Club, one of Ghana’s oldest and most storied football teams. His influence extended well beyond the pitch, as he also served as the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) from 2009 to 2022.

A figure known for bridging the worlds of sport and politics, Coker was often praised for his calm but firm leadership style and his commitment to nurturing young talent in Ghanaian football.

He wasn’t just a sports administrator, he was a mentor and a passionate advocate for the development of local football.

Tributes have poured in from across Ghana, with fans, political leaders, and former players recalling his contributions with warmth and gratitude.
