A ‘sleeping’ driver and ‘lying’ mate can’t steer Ghana – Kofi Adams

The Campaign Coordinator of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, has entreated Ghanaians to opt for a “safe” pair of hands to govern the country by voting for John Dramani Mahama on December 7.

Mr Adams, who likened the country to a commercial vehicle, said Ghana was on a journey and “a driver and his mate who have handled the vehicle so well is what is needed”.

“As such, the vehicle cannot be given to a driver who is always sleeping and a mate who lies,” he stated.

Mr Adams made these comments on Sunday, September 11, as the party launched the first phase of its zonal campaign in the Greater Accra Region.

Even though Mr Adams did not make reference to any individual at the Ashaiman event, the NDC’s bitterest rivals ahead of the polls is the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo and his running mate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Mr Mahama had described the NPP flag bearer as a dictator and a dangerous political figure in the country on previous occasions. He also said the three-time flag bearer of the NPP was very “divisive” and also sleeps during his campaign tours, therefore, fails to see the development projects undertaken by the government.

Some pro-NDC critics have also labelled Dr Bawumia as a liar accusing him of manipulating statistics and data in favour of his party. He recently held a lecture during which he said that the country was better under ex-President Mills tenure than that it has been under President Mahama, even though both fell short of the level of achievements under ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor.

However, Mr Adams said “Bawumia’s lecture was full of lies and the party would not get Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur to respond to the lies churned out at that programme.”

The former aide to the Rawlingses stated that the upcoming elections was about experience and stressed: “Nana Addo has not been able to manage the affairs of the NPP satisfactorily, hence should not be given a bigger responsibility, having failed at managing a smaller organisation.”

He urged the electorate to vote massively for the NDC’s presidential and parliamentary candidates.
