A reconstituted Board of Apam Secondary School inaugurated

Apam (C/R), Jan 28, GNA – The Central Regional Director of Education, Mrs Justina Esinam Torjagbo, has urged governing boards of Senior Secondary Schools to operate within the tenets of the Constitution. “In your desire to see that things are done properly, you must be guided by the constitutional provisions on the operation of Board of Governors of Senior Secondary Schools,” the Regional Director of Education said when inaugurating a reconstituted 13-member Board of Apam Secondary School at Apam on Thursday.

Mrs Torjagbo appealed to the Board members to use their individual and collective efforts to ensure that the School regained and maintained its past glories. She said the public would judge them by their performance at the end of their tenure and advised them to create a condition where teachers, non-teachers and students would feel the sense of belonging to a family. Mrs Torjagbo, however, cautioned them against encroaching upon the authority and responsibility of the Headmaster. She assured the Board that the District and the Regional Directorates of Education would always be ready to support and guide them in the discharge of their challenging duties.

Mr Archibald Kobina Fuah, the Headmaster, said the new Board was the 12th since the inception of the school in 1953. He said the school, which was founded with 13 students, currently had 1,760 students population with 72 teachers and 53 non-teaching staff. Mrs Rose Ernestina Newman, a retired educationist was later elected to chair the Board.
