A Plus to contest NPP chairmanship post

Musician A Plus has declared his intention to contest the constituency chairmanship position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Gomoa Central Constituency. He says this is to enable him to study the structures of the party as he begins his political ambition.

Speaking on Accra-based Joy FM on Wednesday, A-Plus – whose real name is Kwame Asare Obeng – says his activity in the party will begin with the aspiration to lead Gomoa Central.

A-Plus has recently been embroiled in public crossfire with the two deputy chiefs of staff – Francis Asenso-Boakye and Samuel Abu Jinapor – over allegations of corruptions he has smeared against them.

This has ruffled some feathers within the party as it comes on the back of advice from former leader John Agyekum Kufuor – at the weekend’s national delegates’ confernce – not to criticize the NPP government openly.

Though his allegations have been seconded by Member of Parliament for Assin Central Ken Ohene Agyapong, some party stalwarts are said to be unhappy with the development.

A Deputy General Secretary of the party, Nana Obiri Boahen, is reported as saying the two are disgracing the party.

But A-Plus says he is sure of winning the chairmanship seat in the Central Region constituency to ready him for future contests within the party. A-Plus is popular for his politically incorrect songs some of which is said to have aided the NPP in winning power.
