A new market built by the Gomoa West District Assembly in collaboration with the Social Investment Fund (SIF), implementers of the Urban Poverty Reduction Project (UPRP) at Gomoa Ankamu, has been inaugurated.
Gomoa West District Chief Executive, Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah who inaugurated the market, appealed to traders in the district to patronise it to make it one of the leading markets in the Central Region.
He said some of the big markets in the region do not have some of the facilities the new market has which include a kindergarten, warehouse, a lorry park and lockable stores.
Mr Aidoo-Mensah appealed to the traders to honour their tax obligations to enable the Assembly to generate enough funds to improve facilities in the market and cautioned levy and tax collectors against indulging in malpractices. Obrempon Nyanful Krampah XI, Omanhen of Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, commended the government for a number of projects carried out in the traditional area.
He appealed to people of the area to cooperate to ensure the success of the market and urged the traders not to sit on the fence waiting for the market to develop before rushing to acquire spaces.
Nana Oteiba II, Queenmother of Gomoa Ankamu, pledged the willingness of leaders of the town to give land to government and any individual who would wish to establish a project in the town.
Daniel Baah Tsenkorang, District Planning Officer, who is the coordinator for the market appealed to any trader who wanted to develop any part of the market to consult the Assembly before doing anything.
