A former Registrar of the University of Ghana, Teddy Konu, is strongly kicking against plans by the government to construct a new International Airport.
President Mahama in his State of the Nation Address last week intimated that an airport will be built around Prampram in the Greater Accra Region to cater for international flights.
However, speaking at the first Tarzan@60 Lectures in Accra, the former University Registrar stated that undertaking such a project will be to misplace the nation’s priorities.
“May I suggest that we delay that airport till we have seen a significant improvement in the railway system in this country because that has greater impact on the majority of the population,” he stated.
Mr. Konu also added, “We can still hang on to Kotoka International Airport for the short term. It is crucial; we are losing so many lives on our road and trite knowledge that the cheapest way of conveying goods, services and passengers is by rail”.
