A-G’s dept. is too corrupt – Ursula

Managing Editor of the “Gye Nyame Concord”, Alfred Ogbamey, has described the Attorney General’s department as “one of the most corrupt and inefficient bodies” in the country.

He said instead of protecting the interest of the state, they are rather protecting their own interest, engaging in alleged various ‘corrupt activities’ and running down the nation in the long run.

Analyzing various cases in which the Attorney General’s department is involved, Alfred told Kwami Sefa Kayi on ‘Kokrokoo’ that “The payment of judgment debt, Woyome, Isofoton, there is no case that the Attorney General’s department is not involved. They are living well of us pretending that they are not well paid; even if you are not well paid; is that how best you can send your message across? By taking part in corrupt activities, what does it mean?…they cannot be that incompetent. Something has to be done about that department”.

He does not understand why the A-G’s Department keep losing major and minor cases; ‘cases the state is supposed to win and I thought they are supposed to protect the interest of the state’.

Commenting on the same issue on the same platform, Madam Ursula Owusu, Lawyer and Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma West said if those working in the Attorney General’s Department are not satisfied with their salary they should resign.

She said no matter how much government increases their pay, they will not be satisfied because they are already used to gaining more funds through corrupt acts.

“It is so disheartening to see what the place has been turned into because I have worked there before. I can say for a fact that nothing like this happened during our watch and so what happened there? Simple cases that should have been won by the state then they sit aloof and we lose… Then they will approve huge judgment debts. What is wrong with us…?

…If we continue to treat government issues like this, then our sufferings will have no end…they not being paid well is no justification for turning a blind eye and actively being involved in ripping off the state. If you cannot do the work and you feel the pay is not good, resign,” she said.
