The hearing of the case involving Maxwell Kofi Jumah, the defeated candidate of the Asokwa Constituency in the New Patriotic Party’s recent Parliamentary Primary would resume at a Kumasi Circuit Court on August 6.
He would be in the dock with Oscar Riches, his Campaign Manager, after three adjournments of the case.
The former Kumasi Mayor and his campaign manager have been accused of destroying a photo album belonging to the Electoral Commission (EC) and resisting lawful arrest, respectively.
They were arrested on June 13 for allegedly committing these offences during the election at the Ahinsan Youth Centre in Kumasi.
They have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
However, the hearing of the case suffered a hold-up following a plea from the Attorney General’s (AG) Department for some time to study the document from.
The accused persons, during the last hearing, petitioned the AG to take over the case and advice the Police on whether to continue with the case or not.
On Thursday, both the presiding judge, Ms Afua Adu-Amankwah, and Mr Emmanuel Kwadwo Otoo-Boison of the AG Department, who took over from Superintendent Emmanuel Akunnor, the Police Prosecutor, confirmed in Court, that they had been served with an advice from the AG concerning the case, thus paving the way for hearing to continue.
Mr Kwame Osei Prempeh, counsel for accused persons, accepted the schedule for the hearing.
On their first appearance in Court, the accused persons were granted bail in the sum of GHc10,000.00 with a surety each, and ordered to report to the investigator at the Asokwa Police Station every Friday.
