A broken public service is a broken country – Chief of Staff

Chief of Staff Frema Osei-Opare has admonished public servants across the country to adopt citizen-centred work efficiency to assist in the vision of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rebuild the country’s economy.

In a speech on her behalf by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Abu Jinapor, at this year’s United Nations/African Public Service Day on the theme: “Entrenching a Citizen-Centred Service Delivery Culture: Partnering with the Youth for Africa’s Transformation” on Friday, June 23, she indicated the materialisation of NPP’s dreams wouldn’t be achievable without a robust public service.

Meanwhile, the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has described as worrisome the practice of government recruiting civil service personnel from outside, emphasising that it stalls progress.

According to CLOGSAG Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe-Addo, civil servants must be regarded as partners of government for integrated development, hence arbitrary recruitments will not help.

His comments come on the back of recent dismissals and transfers of some public servants under the Nana Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

Mr Bampoe-Addo, who was speaking at the same programme, said government should create a platform where the head of civil service and the head of the local government service would be permitted to be part of cabinet meetings to be abreast of relevant issues concerning workers.

On his part, the former head of civil service, W.K. Kemevor, charged members of the association to renew their commitment to the service.
