A better deal awaits pensioners

Pensioners have been advised to pay regular visits to the hospital and take their medication seriously as directed by the physician to ensure a happy and a healthy long life.

Mr Samuel Ofosu of the SSNIT Headquarters Research Department, who was addressing about 200 SSNIT pensioners from Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District at Enyan-Denkyira said one of the major corporate values of the Trust was to be abreast with its stakeholders, to improve the scheme, foster good relation, respect the views and opinions and to help improve service delivery.

Mr Ofosu interacted with the members on personal information, service delivery and awareness creation among others.

He said as at December 2011, SSNIT pensioners numbered 112,000 and that SSNIT paid over GHC370 million as pension benefits.

He said under the new pension scheme (Act 766), SSNIT is mandated to operate with 11 percent instead of 17.5 percent they used to operate with.

Later, Mr Ofosu, accompanied by Ms Dorcas Quaye, a staff of SSNIT, distributed 187 questionnaires – “Survey on Purchasing Power of Pensioners,” to members, adding that, the response would enable SSNIT to give a better deal to pensioners to fulfill the objectives, aims, and aspirations of the Trust.

He advised pensioners who are 72 years and above to contact the nearest SSNIT offices to complete and sign Life Certificate twice in a year (January and July), adding that; “there is no benefit for nominees of pensioners who die at age 72.”
