The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) on Friday said it is liaising with the Chief Justice to direct judges to insist on lawyers holding personal photo identity cards before they are allowed to handle cases in the courts. Mr J. Ebow Quashie, president of the association, who announced this in Accra, said the move is to check impersonation of lawyers in the courts, especially at the magistrate’s courts.
He told journalists that the GBA would send circulars to all police stations to insist on the identification of lawyers before they defend accused persons. Lawyers will also be required to belong to a chamber before being allowed to handle cases.
He called for the establishment of a judicial college to institutionalise the upgrading of knowledge and skills of judges in the law to match current and changing situations in the profession. – africast/GNA
