A philanthropist builds a computer centre for school

Kwaman-Ashanti, March 25, GNA – Mr Joseph Kweku Duku, 52, Businessman and Philanthropist, has built a computer centre, library and staff common room estimated at 80,000 Ghana cedis for Seventh Day Adventist Junior High School at Kwaman.

Mr Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, Ashanti Regional Minister, inaugurating the project, called for collaboration between government, institutions and organisations in the provision of infrastructure to improve the quality of teaching and learning in schools.

He reiterated government’s commitment to human resources development in the country especially the youth and pledged to assist in the establishment of a Senior High School for the town. Mr Kwame Osei Prempeh, Deputy Minister of Justice and Member of Parliament for Nsuta Kwaman Beposo, commended Mr Duku and appealed to him to institute a scholarship scheme for brilliant but needy students in the area to enhance development. He called on parents to educate their children to become responsible citizens and pledged to donate two computers and accessories to the centre.

Mrs Belinda Addo, Ashanti Regional Director of Education in an address read for her appealed to teachers to be responsible and appear decent as role models for their pupils and students in the communities. Nana Abayie Ntori Nimpa II, Omanhene of Kwaman Traditional Area, commended Mr Duku and urged other citizens to emulate him to accelerate development in the area.

Mr Owusu Yeboah, Ashanti Regional Manager, SDA Educational Unit, commended the people for assisting teachers posted to the area with accommodation to work efficiently and effectively. He said the church in addition to spreading the Gospel had assisted in educating the children and youth and currently had 172 primary and junior high schools and seven senior high schools in the Region. Mr Duku asked the pupils to take good care of the project as their contribution to development in the area.
