Capitation grant increases school enrolment in Kumasi

Aprade (Ash), March 25, GNA – Basic school enrolment in the Kumasi metropolis has been increasing by 10 per cent each year since the introduction of the capitation grant. Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, Kumasi Metropolitan Director of Education, said the implementation of the grant coupled with the introduction of the school feeding programme had made the schools more attractive to both parents and pupils.

Mr Onyinah was speaking at the inauguration of a kitchen built by the chiefs and people of Aprade in the Kumasi metropolis to support the school feeding programme in the town.

The kitchen was financed by the queen of the town, Nana Gyamfua Afriyie 1, and the Member of Parliament for Oforikrom constituency, Madam Elizabeth Agyeman.

He said the Metro Education Directorate would ensure that the town benefited from the feeding programme since they had built a kitchen. Mad Agyeman commended people in the community for their self help spirit and pledged her support to the growth and development of the school.

She also commended teachers in the constituency for their hard work and dedication which had helped improve academic performance in the constituency.

Nana Gyamfua Afriyie advised her people to take interest in the national health insurance scheme and register to benefit from it. Nana Afriyie also appealed to the MP to support the people to construct a modern market in the town.
