Bekwaiman spent GH¢1,130 on scholarships to 52 students

Bekwai (Ash), March 24, GNA – The Bekwai Traditional Council, in collaboration with the Bekwaiman Development Committee, has spent GH¢1,130 on scholarships for 52 brilliant but needy students in second-cycle institutions since 1999. It has also spent GH¢7,500 on some development projects including the renovation and fencing of the Gyamfi football park which is nearly completed. Mr Sampson Ofori, secretary of the Bekwaiman Development Committee, said this at the annual Easter harvest organised in aid of development projects at Bekwai on Sunday. He said funds for the projects are through individual and traditional council contributions while the assembly supported with GH¢1,800. Mr Ofori appealed to residents and non-residents to contribute generously to enable the projects to be completed on time. Nana Kaakari Appau II, Omanhene of Bekwai, commended the government for upgrading the district into a municipal status and also reconstructing the Anhwiankwanta/Bekwai road. Mr Joe Osei-Owusu, a citizen of Bekwai and Chief Executive Officer of the Driver, Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA), pledged Gh¢1,000 towards the development of the area.
