Report Shoddy Contractors to Appropriate Quarters – Debrah

Navrongo (U/E), March 18, GNA – Mr Ernest Debrah, Minister of Food and Agricultural has appealed to Ghanaians to report contractors who do shoddy work for the necessary disciplinary measures to be taken against them.

He made the remark at the weekend when cutting the sod for the rehabilitation of the Tono Irrigation Project in the Kassena-Nanakana District.

Mr Debrah bemoaned the situation where some community members sat aloof on cases of poorly executed public projects. He explained that most of the shoddy work executed by Contractors would have been corrected at earlier stages if they were reported to the appropriate authority for redress on time. “It is the responsibility of all and sundry to be vigilant on the activities of Contractors to ensure that they execute quality work to avoid unnecessary expenditure.” he said. He indicated that monies that were used by Government to re-start shoddy works all over again would have been channelled through other developmental projects.

Mr Debrah said Ghanaians must be mindful that it was their tax monies that were being used to pay contractors to enable them perform their duties and they would be cheating themselves if they sat down unconcerned and allowed Contractors to do shoddy work. “You need therefore to be up and doing to monitor the activities of Contractors who are engaged in shoddy work and report them to the necessary authorities for them to be sanctioned,” he emphasized. 18 March 08
