Court remands spiritualist in custody

Awutu, March 4, GNA – Mr. Kofi Ahiabor, presiding over Awutu Magistrates Court, on Tuesday remanded a ‘spiritualist’ in custody for allegedly defrauding a businessman of 6,500 Ghana Cedis.

The court did not take the plea of Peter Alimo for defrauding Richard Kobi, the businessman.

The remand was to enable the police to complete investigations into other offences relating to Alimo’s offence.

He would reappear before court on March 11, 2008. Police Chief Inspector Helena Aidoo said sometime last month, the accused approached the businessman and demanded the amount in order to perform some rites so that his business would move very fast to make more money.

The prosecution said though business was not improving as Alimo promised, he kept on making further demands. As a result, Chief Inspector Aidoo said, the businessman became suspicious and reported the matter to police who effected Alimo’s arrest.
