Opoku Ware Old Boys mobilizes funds

Kumasi, March 1, GNA – Old students of Opoku Ware School in Kumasi have been called upon to use their positions to impact positively on the development of their alma mater.

Dr Yaw Adubofuor Tuffuor, national president of the Old Boys Association, who made the call on Saturday, urged all members to be committed to sustaining the good image of the school. He was speaking at a fundraising event to solicit for funds to complete an Information Communication Technology centre, which was started by the old boys in 1992.

The event, which was marked on the theme: “Celebrating Our Heroes,” was also used to honour some heroes of the school with the spotlight on Mr Kofi Nsiah-Poku, Chief Executive Officer of Kinapharma Limited. Dr Tuffuor recalled that in 2002, during the celebration of the school’s Golden Jubilee, the old boys pledged to build and furnish an Information Technology centre as part of their contributions to the advancement of the school.

The project, he said, came to standstill because the enthusiasm with which it began “died rather too quickly”. He expressed the hope that by regularly celebrating their heroes, they would be able to reverse the situation and win back support and confidence of the entire membership.

Mr Nsiah-Poku urged the students to study hard to attain good academic performance and to become responsible adults in future. He presented drugs valued at GH¢100,000 and 10 computers to the school.

Mr. Stephen Anokye, Headmaster of the school, expressed gratitude to Mr Nsiah-Poku and all the old boys for their immense contribution towards the school. He appealed to others resident home and abroad to contribute to the development and welfare of the students and the school. 01 Mar. 08
