Cape Coast, Nov. 27, GNA – Alhaji Daudi Alhassan, Central Regional Director of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), on Tuesday said the company spent about GH¢30,000.00 last year to replace stolen conductors and cables in the region.
He said the stealing of ECG cables and bush fires that destroyed its installations were some of the major causes of power interruptions in the region and the nation as a whole. Alhaji Alhassan said this at a media briefing organized by the Company in Cape Coast.
He appealed to the public to help the company to apprehend those nation wreckers and bring them to book and that ECG spent about GH¢208,700 in 2007 to improve supply of electricity to its customers in the region.
Alhaji Alhassan said the company recently introduced the “electro prepayment meter” to the Central Region, starting in Cape Coast and has so far installed 500 meters. He said 50,000 would be installed in the first phase and that Cape Coast, Swedru and Kasoa would be the first beneficiaries.
