PNC marks Nkrumah’s overthrown

Accra, Feb. 25, GNA – The People’s National Convention (PNC) on Monday bemoaned the extent to which Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s agenda of a progressive Ghana and Africa, where the cry of the lowly and underprivileged in society would be the worry of the privileged, has been betrayed.

A statement signed by Mr. Bernard Mornah, General Secretary of PNC on the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of the overthrow of Dr. Nkrumah which fell on Sunday, expressed anguish at the extent to which all these policies towards entrenching the sense of self-reliance had been let down.

“It is no gainsaying that, the programmes and policy decisions of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah principally were meant to insure social justice at all levels of our national life and, equally so, instil in the Ghanaian and the African, the uncompromising need for self-reliance,” he said. He said the PNC was mourning for two significant reasons, the first being that the services of a selfless world leader was painfully truncated by foreign institutions such as the CIA with the aid of “opportunistic selfish Ghanaian traitors”.

The second reason, he said, was the negative effects of the coup resulting in economic decline, backwardness in development, the loss of hope and confidence of the average Ghanaian in his capacity to excel in any sphere of labour.

It said a day like this presented a challenge of resurrecting in a convincing manner the dreams and aspiration of Dr Nkrumah.

“And it is our assurance to Ghanaians that we will not waver in our efforts to ensure that these aspirations which were suffocated to near extinction are brought back to life sooner than later for the common good of Ghanaians and Africans.”

The PNC said it was particularly important to mention that this year’s anniversary was at a time when Ghanaians were preparing to go to the polls.

“It is important to remind our electorate in whom we believe, ultimate power reside, that in preparing their minds for this exercise, they should not forget that the ideals of Nkrumah are even more relevant than ever in answering the frequently asked questions of Ghana’s and Africa’s economic distress, high donor dependency and more importantly insecurity.”

It said the PNC was the most qualified agency to execute these ideas.

“It is therefore our appeal in the spirit of the common good that whoever has the interest of this republic at heart and wants to see it progress in the direction that will be attractive to all as posited by Osagyefo, and anybody who has the belief that the path of Nkrumaism is the righteous in salvaging the lives of Ghanaians” to entrust the management of the country to the PNC.
