Multi-Complex hospice to be built in Koforidua

Koforidua, Jan. 15, GNA – Matthew 25, an HIV/AIDS advocacy centre based in the New Juaben Municipality, is to build a multi- purpose hospice complex to cater for the vulnerable and especially people living with HIV/AIDS.

The project to be located at Mile 50, a suburb of Koforidua, would be the first of its kind in the country. Mr Michael Padi, a counsellor at Matthew 25 centre, said this when Milicom Ghana presented 300 Ghana cedis for the upkeep of inmates of the house on Tuesday.

The project would be funded by donors from the USA. The donation formed part of the prize given to Mr Cajetan Nagua, the head of distribution of the company who won the 2007 best worker award and decided to donate it to charity. Mr Padi said experience from the centre had necessitated the building of the hospice so that focus would not be on only HIV/AIDS victims but on people who were suffering from other deadly diseases. He said a 20-acre land had been purchased while a team from the donor agencies are due to arrive soon to train people on how to manage the facility.

Mrs Faustina Ntiamoah, Eastern regional Manger of the company, said Mr Nagua decided to donate the cash prize to vulnerable societies in the country and Matthew 25 was chosen. She pledged the company’s support to the project and in the building of the hospice centre. 15 Jan 08
