Doing Business in Ghana: Good & Bad

In Ghana today it takes an average of six months to register a property for a business. In 2007, the process took a little more than a month, according to The World Bank Group’s research.

However, Ghana is one of the top 10 countries where the governments had the most recent reforms for businesses. Egypt ranked No. 1 followed by Croatia, Ghana, Macedonia and Georgia.

This list does not mean they are the best countries to do business in. The list was a representation of countries where investing does not yet have a high return, but could 10 years from now if the governments continue reforms.

A list of 178 countries was published in the most recent “Doing Business 2008” report. The list took into account the best places to do business in, given the reforms their governments enforced in order to improve the business environment in the past year.

The United States is the third-best country in which to do business, trailing New Zealand and the No. 1 country, Singapore.

Later this year the World Bank will publish a report looking at infrastructure among various countries, particularly energy infrastructure .
