Akrofu Chief Linguist commits suicide

Akrofu (V/R), Jan. 08, GNA – Anos Amu Yao, 79, Chief Linguist of Akrofu Traditional Area in the Ho Municipality, has committed suicide by hanging.

The linguist was said to have left the house on January 6, at about 1000 hours and was found hanging on a mango tree with an electric cable the following day.

Joy Afagbedzi, Inspector of Police in charge of Public Affairs at the Regional Command in Ho, confirmed the incident and said initial investigations indicated the deceased had demonstrated suicidal sentiments in recent times.

He said Yao on that day was seen leaving his house but when he had not returned a search party was organized to look for him but to no avail. Mr Afagbedzi said later one Atafoe Denkyira, a farmer, chanced upon the body and informed the search party. He said police found no mark of violence on the deceased and that the body had been deposited at the Ho Regional Hospital for autopsy.
