Political parties urged to protect national interest

Kwesimintsim (W/R), Jan. 3, GNA- Reverend Winfried Azornu, Kwesimintsim District Pastor of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, on Thursday called on the political parties to have due regard for national interest in their electioneering campaign.

He made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on his new year’s message and prospects for 2008 at Kwesimintsim near Takoradi. Reverend Azornu said electioneering campaign must be devoid of acrimony, to safeguard the country’s democratic process, peace and security.

He said, “Political parties must campaign in the interest of the nation and not in their own interest”.

Reverend Azornu said 2008 would be a promising year if the people would maintain the relative peace existing in the country. He urged the people to be hospitable to the visitors who would be coming to the country for the Ghana 2008 tournament. He cautioned against having casual sex with visitors to the tournament to avoid HIV/AIDS and other diseases and also urged them to assist the security agencies to maintain peace during the period of the games, he said.
