Groups should work for Church’s growth – Rev.

Accra, Dec. 20, GNA – Right Reverend Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of General Assembly of Presbyterian Church of Ghana, on Thursday stressed the need for groups in the Church to harness their strength for the growth of the church.

He said the interest of members in group activities was more than in church activities and coupled with lack of coordination among the groups had affected the Church’s growth.

Rt-Rev. Dr Frimpong-Manso made the call when an eight-member delegation of the newly elected National Executive Committee of Presbyterian Men’s Fellowship paid a courtesy call on him in Accra. The delegation led by Lieutenant-Colonel Jonas Yaw Asamoah (Rtd) President, included, Mr K. La-Opare, Secretary and Mr Charles Oduro Nyarko, Treasurer.

The rest are Mr James Frempong, Vice-President (Finance), Mr Steve Yirenkyi, Vice-President (Development and Properties), Mr Steve Armah, Vice-President (Education and Evangelism), Mr Patrick A. Firempong, Publicity Officer and Mr Kofi Asante-Agyarko, Immediate-past President. Rt-Rev. Dr Frimpong-Manso said activities of the groups were vital and played an integral role in the Church’s growth therefore, groups should ensure their activities promoted growth in the Church. He said the Church was established before the groups were formed and members were expected to participate fully in activities of the groups but expressed regret that unity among the groups was non-existent and their activities were not co-ordinated for growth. Rt-Rev. Dr Frimpong-Manso called on National Executive Committees of the various groups to initiate measures to liase with branches of the Church outside the country to mobilise more funds for growth. Lt-Col. Asamoah pledged the commitment of members to ensure the group played its role in the Church.
