NDC commends Parliament on EC’s budget

Accra, Dec. 15 GNA – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Friday commended Parliament for the bold decision to stand down the approval of the budgetary allocation of GHC2 36,803,056 to the Electoral Commission (EC) against for GHC2 51, 744,972 needed to organise the 2008 general elections.

A statement issued and signed by Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary of the NDC said the GHC2 51,744,972, in the view of the EC would be necessary for the Commission to organise a credible Presidential and Parliamentary elections in December 2008.

The statement applauded Parliament for this non-partisan step so far taken towards ensuring free and fair elections in the country and urged Parliament to stand firm on this issue of ensuring that the EC was properly funded to undertake this onerous constitution mandate properly.
