KAD Foundation re-launched at Chiraa

Chiraa (B/A) Dec. 11 GNA – Mr Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, has appealed to particularly the well to do in society to assist the poor in the education of their children.

He noted that the nation’s quest to make quality education available for every Ghanaian child might not achieve the desired goal if individuals did not support Government’s efforts.

The Minister was speaking at the re-launch of KAD Foundation, set up in April 2003 to support the education and training of the youth. The Foundation has since then supported more than 60 students at various levels of education.

Mr Adjei-Darko, founder of the Foundation, reiterated that it aimed at the proper upbringing and training of the youth so that as future leaders of the nation they would grow to become responsible citizens.

He said the Foundation did not discriminate as to the ethnic, religious or political backgrounds of brilliant but needy students who must be helped to get on in life.

“There are several of the beneficiaries who are not even from Brong Ahafo because the Foundation is not discriminatory and the main aim is to soothe the trauma of such youth from poor homes in their education and training,” Mr Adjei-Darko said. He stressed that the sound development of the youth determined the future of a community and education was the main tool for such sound development.

Mr Adjei-Darko urged parents to avoid wasting their resources on items like funeral clothes and alcoholism and to rather sacrifice to supplement the efforts of teachers to provide quality education for their children.

“Let’s sacrifice and have an aim in life and there will be no difficulties that we cannot surmount,” he said, and advised the youth to remain determined in spite of frustrations and to have a foresight and focus on their goals.

Nana Atta Afena, Co-ordinator of the Foundation, recounted the struggles of the Minister in his youthful days in pursuance of education and urged the youth to take him as their role model.
