AMA unveils a $10m projects

Accra, Dec 8. GNA- Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson, Chief Executive Office (CEO) of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly on Saturday unveiled a ten-million dollar development projects for the Mamponse and Chemu communities, suburbs in Accra.

The projects, which were sponsored by the French government, would include water supply systems, construction of roads and drainages, the provision of solid waste containers, street lights, public toilets and rehabilitation work on the Chemu lagoon.

Speaking during the site inspection of the projects and interaction with the community members, Mr. Adjiri Blankson called on the inhabitants of the two communities to corporate with the consultants and the contractors for the successful execution of the projects. “Assembly men, opinion leaders and all the various groups in these communities must make sure that those who have built on roads should voluntarily remove their structures for the work to go on otherwise the investment will be taken to other communities.” He charged the inhabitants to be wary of those who would try to hinder the progress of the work, adding that it was very difficult to get funding for such projects.

Mr. Adjiri Blankson again urged them to change their attitude of indiscriminate littering and dumping into drains since they had a lot of negative implications on their health.

“Communities should form their own watchdog committees to deal with those who litter and dump refuse into drains. The social clubs should take up this challenge and the Assembly will support them”, he added. The CEO said employment would be created for the inhabitants when work begins since the Assembly had made it a policy to ensure that the bulk of the workforce would come from there.

Mr. Ravi Patandin, who was the Consultant for the AMA on the projects, said the projects would commence on the first quarter of next year after the contracts had been awarded, adding that, the whole projects would take 18 months to be completed.
