Police arrests 14 persons in swoops

Kwesimintsim (W/R) Dec. 07 -GNA-The Kwesimintsim District Police on Wednesday arrested 14 persons during separate swoops on the dens of Indian hemp smokers and peddlers at Kwesimintsimfie and Kwesimintsim Zongo. Mr Magnus Reindoff Sam, the District Police Commander, told the press at Kwesimintsim that, the Police carried out the swoops following complaints by public about Indian hemp smoking dens in the area. Mr Sam said 52 wrappers of leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were seized from the suspects.

He said the suspects would be screened and those found to be criminals would be prosecuted.

Mr Sam said the smoking of Indian hemp is illegal in the country and those caught smoking and selling it would face the law. He said more swoops would be undertaken in the area before, during and after Ghana 2008.
