Ashantis and Ewes have fraternal ties-Asantehene

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has stated that Ashantis and Ewes are allies whose fraternal ties can be traced to history and has remained so ever since. He therefore asked Ewes to ignore speculations in certain sections of the society that Ashantis have hatred and disaffection for Ewes since such negative impressions would undermine the brotherly links between them.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, made the observation when Togbe Amenya Fiti the V, paramount chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, paid a courtesy call on him at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. The Asantehene said the bond of brotherliness is further buttressed by inter-marriages between Ashantis and Ewes and the cordial and peaceful reception accorded Ewes residing in Asanteman.

He said the creation of Anloga community in Kumasi is a practical demonstration of the genuine co-operation that the Ashantis have with Ewes and stressed the need for its consolidation for the benefit of future generations.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, asked chiefs to ensure unity among Ghanaians since “irrespective of our ethnic backgrounds, we still belong to one country and therefore have a common purpose and vision”.

Togbe Fiti, who was accompanied by Togbe S.K. Fugah, Chief of the Anloga community in Kumasi, lauded the Asantehene’s immense contribution towards the upliftment of the country’s cultural heritage, the chieftaincy institution and his crusade for unity and development.

He commended the Asantehene for the peace and security in Asanteman, which had made it possible for Ewes and other residents in the region to work peacefully. Togbe Fiti said he had allotted land to Ashantis in Aflao to enable them settle there, if they so wish.

He extended an invitation to the Asantehene to participate in the “Godigbe Za” festival to be held by the chiefs and people of Aflao traditional area in the later part of the year.
