Police put GHC22,000 bounty on Constable Ayi

Kumasi, Dec. 1, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Police Command has put GH=A2 2,000 bounty on Constable Dennis Ayi, a Police Officer, who absconded after killing a passenger on a KIA truck that was loaded with teak logs.

The deceased, Yaw Agyin was on a KIA Truck with a registration number AS 6185 V loaded with teak logs heading towards Akomadan where the Constable Ayi was stationed.

The Acting Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Seth Oteng, who announced this at a press conference in Kumasi, said at about 0230 hours on November 29, 2007 Constable Ayi, who was on duty and was armed with AK 47 at a check point spotted the truck and signalled the driver to stop but he sped off so he shot at the truck.

He said Constable Ayi after the close of work handed over the gun at his station without telling anyone about what had happened and left. ACP Oteng said at about 0730 hours the same day, the youth of the area on hearing this, besieged the Akomadan Police station in two trucks and destroyed the charge office’s door and some benches. He said the Offinso Police was called in to restore peace and order and in the process, a Sergeant, whose name was not given, was hit by a stone in the chest. The angry mob escaped. Agyin’s body has since been deposited at the Nkenkasu Health Centre and would be later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for autopsy.
