Ex- Graphic employees sue Corporation for contempt

Accra, Nov. 29, GNA – An Accra High Court will on December 4 hear an application brought before it by 155 former employees of the Graphic Communication Group, praying the court to commit the company for contempt.

The former employees say the application followed the Corporation’s persistent refusal to comply with a Supreme Court Judgment delivered on July 13, 2005.

In that ruling, the Civil Division of the Supreme Court ordered Management of Graphic to pay the entitlements of 155 of its workers it laid off on October 29, 1993, with effect from December 31, 1990. The court further ordered the Corporation to calculate the relevant percentages of their annual salaries as they stood on December 31, 1990, multiplied over the number of years served by each of the ex-workers. The Court also ordered that in case of any under-payments, the differences should be paid to the affected workers with interest at the prevailing bank rate from October 29, 1993 to July 13, 2005. The Supreme Court’s decision was an affirmation of what was delivered on December 15, 1999 by an Accra High Court presided over by Mr Justice Nana Gyamera Tawiah.
