Chief remanded for failing to appear court

Ajumako (C/R), Nov. 26, GNA- An Ajumako District magistrate court, presided over by Mr Kwesi Boakye Enimil, on Thursday remanded Nana Okra Tawiah Twum VII, Banmuhen of Ajumako Bisease in prison custody for showing disrespect to the court.

Nana Twum, who pleaded not guilty to his earlier charge of assault, would appear in court on December 5, 2007. Before remanding him the Judge said on Septembe r 2 this year, the chief caused unlawful harm to an 85-year old woman at Bisease, madam Efua Boasiwa and was arraigned before the court.

The court then granted him bail with two sureties to report to the police on every Friday pending further investigations of the case. He said Nana Twum failed to report to the police as directed and also refused to appear before the court on September 12 and October 22. According to the Judge he considered the chief’s behaviour as trying to delay the court’s proceedings and hearing and therefore issued a bench warrant for his arrest. 26 Nov. 07
