Mr. John Agyekum Kufuor, flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), revealed that if voted into power, the party would create 100,000 jobs for the unemployed youth during its first year in office. It would do this by pursuing pragmatic policies to create an enabling condition for entrepreneurs to establish industries, especially in the rural areas.
Mr. Kufuor was speaking at a rally at Nkyenda, near Adukrom, where he introduced the parliamentary candidate for Okere constituency, Mr. Bradford Adu, an Accra businessman. He said an NPP government would abolish the cash and carry system introduced by the government to make health delivery accessible to all. Mr. Kufour said the NPP would insist that only photo ID cards are used to identify eligible voters in the December elections and advised party supporters, who do not have them to report to the Electoral Commission.
The Eastern Regional Chairman of the party, Nana Adi Ankoma advised polling agents to be vigilant during voting to prevent rigging. He commended the constituents for the mature manner in which they selected the candidate and urged them to support him to win the seat. Mr. Adu, who was unanimously endorsed by the delegates, thanked them for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to support the people by providing incentives to boost agricultural production in the area, if he wins.
