Two die at Tarkwa Mine

Tarkwa (W/R) Nov. 23- GNA -Two workers of Gold Fields Ghana Limited (GFGL) Tarkwa Mine died instantly when working on a conveyor belt at the Mine site at Tarkwa on Thursday.

The deceased are Hayford Wogbey, 38 and Peter Kyeremateng, 52, both welders.

Briefing the Press on Friday, Mr Stephen Yirenkyi, Community Affairs and Public Relations Manager, GFGL, said the two were instructed to reline the chute on the conveyor. He said in the process of installing the liners, one of the joints separated and the force exerted by the counter weight threw them against the steel structure of the conveyor belt. According to Mr Yirenkyi, investigations were still on-going.
