Plantain thief jailed 12 months

Mankranso (Ash), Nov. 14, GNA- The Mankranso magistrates’ court has sentenced a 27-year-old farmer at Biemso Number Two in the Ahafo-Ano South District of Ashanti to 12 months imprisonment for stealing two bunches of plantain valued at GH=A21.5 (15,000 cedis). Kofi Oteng pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea. Police Chief Inspector Abraham Agyei Mensah, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr Frank Owusu-Afriyie that on November 10 this year, Amidu Seidu, the complainant detected the theft of two bunches of plantain from his farm.

He said during a search he met Oteng holding the plantain at a nearby farm and when confronted admitted stealing them from the complainant’s farm. The prosecution said a report was made to the police who arrested the accused and after investigation charged with the offence.
