The Chief Justice, Mr. Justice I.K Abban, has swore-in 49 community and Circuit Tribunal Chairmen and Judges to the bench. The Chief Justice urged them to exercise the greatest sense of maturity and transparency in the course of their duties. He said as the country is shaping an infant democracy, it behooves judges to operate within the confines of the constitution and statutes to enhance the administration of justice.
Mr. Justice Abban said the entrenchment of the role of laymen in the administration of justice is a unique innovation with a view to bringing their opinions to bear on the determination of issues which arise mainly in criminal law. He therefore advised the judges to exercise their jurisdiction in a way that panellists will recognise their roles as adjudicators and professionals who are to assist them, the layman, in this new role within the context co-operation to achieve the ends of justice. The Deputy Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mr. A.B.K. Amidu, urged the judges to conduct their affairs to maintain the integrity of the judiciary.
