Church donates wheelchairs to mobility handicapped

Tepa (Ash), Nov. 9, GNA – The Church of Latter Day Saints on Thursday presented 12 wheelchairs costing several millions of cedis to 12 mobility handicapped persons at a ceremony held at Tepa in Ashanti Region. The beneficiaries were five females and seven males in the Ahafo-Ano North District.

Mr. Edmond Adusei a senior member of the church in Kumasi, who made the presentation on behalf of the church, said it is the social responsibility of the church to assist the needy and the unfortunate in society to make them responsive to themselves and their families. He advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the chairs but not to go onto the streets begging for alms. Mr. Adusei said the church took delivery of 250 wheelchairs for distribution to deserving beneficiaries in all the 18 districts in Ashanti Region.

Mr Anthony Obeng, the District Social Welfare Officer who received the items on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the church for their continuous assistance to the physically challenged in the society. He appealed to the church to consider those who could not benefit from the wheelchairs allocation in future. He urged the church to assist them to acquire employable skills in order not to depend too much on others.
