Ho, Nov. 6, GNA- Mr. Jake Obestebi-Lamptey, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant for the 2008 Election, on Monday advised NPP delegates not to allow monetary influence to cloud their judgment and vote for the wrong candidate.
He said “If you allow monetary gains to take the better part of your judgment to vote for the wrong candidate, the consequences would be too grave for the party.”
Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey gave the advice at Ho when he met the press as part of his tour of constituencies in the Volta Region to solicit the votes of delegates who will attend the party’s congress on December 22, this year to elect NPP flagbearer for the Election.
He said it was sad that some of the aspirants were going round “buying the delegates to vote for them,” adding, “winning the flagbearership of the party does not require throwing money at the delegates.” Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey said the country needed a visionary, humble and trustworthy leader to take over from President John Agyekum Kufuor. The presidential aspirant said he has been tried and tested and his track record both as a private businessman and a politician attested to the fact that he was the right candidate to lead the NPP to victory in 2008.
Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey said the NPP would not be divided after the congress as some people were thinking instead the party would emerge stronger as all the loosing candidates would rally behind the winner to give the party a resounding victory.
Concerning corruption, he said every Ghanaian was guilty of the issue and that accusing fingers should not be pointed to any individual or group of persons alone.
Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey said there was the need for Ghanaians to collectively weed out the canker from the system.
